One of the best ways for a parent-coach to track his or her player's competitive development and progress is through the use of a match charting system. Through this system, each point in a match is documented according to specific shot winners and errors, both forced and unforced, so that a parent-coach can assess which shots, strategies and tactics are working best for a player during a match and which need improvement.
Below are a few charts in PDF format that a parent-coach can use to track each point in a player's match. The first document, the THTS Shot Abbreviations, indicates the abbreviations that are used in the THTS Match Chart for each point played. A sample of the THTS Match Chart is provided to show how points are documented, and a blank copy of the THTS Match Chart is available to print.
The Match Chart tracks a player's statistics and percentages on each particular shot during a match.
Each of the court diagrams, Court 1 and Court 2, include a tennis court graphic on which the parent-coach may sketch a drill sequence for use at practice. Space for the drill description is also provided.
