Level 3
Secondary Parent-Coach: This parent can understand the high technical aspects of the game but is not a teaching professional or tennis coach. Therefore, this parent knows about the various aspects of the game and provides a small amount of technical coaching to the child. The child primarily receives all of his training from a private tennis professional or high school coach, but when that coach is unavailable, this parent can step in and still provide advice when needed. The secondary parent-coach will defer to the player’s primary coach but feels confident enough in tennis knowledge that he or she can help the child. This parent is responsible for all off-court parent-coach responsibilities (i.e., nutrition, equipment, sleep, etc.), observes the majority of the player’s practices and matches and might provide post-match or practice critiques.
